At Witmer Heights, it is important for us to provide nurturing experiences that lead to spiritual formation. Our hope it that this will shape us to bear the fruit of Jesus’ teachings in our daily lives. We aim to live out our vision of figuring out together how to follow Jesus and make our community and world a better place.
We provide a variety of settings to be introduced to the good news of Jesus and grow in our lives of faith including worship experiences, Sunday School classes, youth groups and small groups, men’s and women’s gatherings, and service opportunities.
Children and Youth
We are grateful for the opportunity to guide our children and youth to deeper understandings of God’s love and truth revealed to us most fully through Jesus Christ, and to receive these for their own lives. We offer a variety of safe, positive, and caring teaching settings that are biblically based. The safety of all children is important as we follow the guidelines of our Child Safety Policy.
Sunday School: 9:45-10:30 am for Pre-K, elementary, junior youth, and youth.
Children often have a story time during the worship service. They also take part in special activities like a summer reading program, helping to prepare relief kits for Mennonite Central Committee, and taking on roles within our worship service such as reciting scripture, collecting offerings, and sharing musical gifts.
Our youth meet together regularly, hosted by various church members. The junior youth group meets monthly for a time of social interaction and teaching. The youth group meets twice a month, once together and once with the junior youth. These groups also take part in weekend retreats and service opportunities. There is a priority placed on integrating our youth with the larger group in worship involvement, outreach, and relationships. They are connected with a mentor to walk with them on this journey of faith.
Adults also meet from 9:45 to 10:30am for Sunday School. There are often 2 classes studying Bible passages and themes, as well as issues of faithful living, peace, and justice. Sister Care circles meet quarterly for women, as well as a monthly breakfast for men. Small groups are available to be formed for spiritual encouragement and to introduce and invite people to follow Jesus.
The congregation has an annual weekend retreat and outreach opportunities together. LMC, our conference of churches, also provides learning and retreat settings. Our worship service includes much involvement of the congregation with sharing testimonies and responses, music and worship gifts, and preaching, to encourage and nurture one another.
